A brilliant man. Excellent writer, super orator, wit and style. You cannot blame him for being so bitter near the end. I truly believe he would not be surprised by our current situation, with the current crop of idiot's who are supposed to "serve" us and he was speaking out against Israel's occupation long ago. I cowrote the only full-length biography of Howlin' Wolf. I went to see Bert Jansch in Seattle on Wolf's 100th birthday. I could've gone to Chicago for Wolf's centennial, but I wanted to see and hear Bert again. That's how much I loved him. Bert died a little over a year later. I'm so glad I got to see him one last time. He was one of the bluesiest players ever, and if I could play guitar one-tenth as well as he did, I'd feel like I'd gotten somewhere as a player.

Bert Jansch story: I saw Bert in Boston around 2011 during 'Occupy Boston' I think. He was opening for Neil Young who idolizes Bert. So someone offered me some good weed outside and we went in the alley. I was able to go right to the front row directly in front of Bert and engaged in adoring banter with the great man. He tolerated me as I was saying: Why the fuck isn't Neil opening for you?" He laughed and I was not thrown out but I left and did not stay for Neil I was so upset. (I totally forgive Neil, he did nothing wrong it was just what I was feeling at the time) I made it back to Gloucester where I was being harassed by the police and eventually jailed. So my 27ft 'Southwind' motor home was in the boatyard and it was late and I decided on a whim to drive her unregistered to Newburyport. I hated to waste a good buzz and I had an uneventful trip. I parked on the waterfront and guess what? Neil Young's bus was right beside me so I walked back and forth singing 'Old Man' and finally the manager came out and invited me in to the 'Grog' where I had been many times with Danny in the 70s and we sat together drinking (we smoked outside) and watching Neil's band. It was a night I'll never forget. Neil, of course, now is recognized by God the Father and all 'Our' elders as God of Ireland with Conor McGregor as King. God bless you beautiful wise good and courageous Bert Jansch. I saw him at the Ryman in about 1994 as part of Emmylou Harris' band. He did this song alone onstage with the lap steel player and just crushed it. It was one of the highest energy parts of the show. Never forgot that.
